Partnership Principles

  • mutual value;
  • research integrity;
  • transparency;
  • appropriate governance;
  • ethical practice;
  • appropriate data protection;
  • accurate public communications.

Due Diligence

The level of due diligence should be proportionate to the nature, scale, risk, and visibility of the relationship.

Considerations may include:

  • legal identity;
  • reputation;
  • authority to enter the relationship;
  • relevant expertise;
  • conflicts of interest;
  • data implications;
  • safeguarding;
  • funding;
  • ethical or reputational risks.

Public Claims

An exploratory discussion does not constitute a formal partnership.

An organization should not be publicly identified as a GARC partner solely because:

  • a meeting occurred;
  • correspondence took place;
  • an individual expressed interest;
  • an application was submitted;
  • discussions are ongoing.

Names and logos should only be used publicly with appropriate authorization.

Independence

Partnership does not automatically imply endorsement of all positions, publications, services, or activities of either party.

Research integrity and independence should be protected within partnership arrangements.
